Condition

Here’s a fascinating piece of Merle Haggard’s catalog that often gets overlooked by casual fans but deserves serious attention from collectors of outlaw country and gospel crossover material. “The Land Of Many Churches” represents Hag at his most spiritually reflective, recorded during a period when he was grappling with his own relationship to faith and redemption. What makes this release particularly special is the stellar supporting cast – Bonnie Owens brings her distinctive harmonies throughout, while The Carter Family’s participation connects this album directly to the roots of country gospel tradition. The Strangers, as always, provide that unmistakable Bakersfield sound that grounds even these sacred songs in authentic country grit.
