Here’s a fascinating piece of early 80s vocal pop that showcases Engelbert Humperdinck during his transition period between his golden crooner era and his attempt to capture the contemporary adult contemporary market. “You And Your Lover” from 1983 represents one of his more underrated efforts, featuring lush production that bridges his traditional orchestral arrangements with the sleeker, synthesizer-tinged sound that was dominating the airwaves. The album includes several standout tracks that demonstrate his vocal maturity, particularly his interpretation of romantic ballads that had become his signature, now given a more modern sonic treatment.
