Condition

Here’s a fascinating slice of Canadian folk history that rarely surfaces in the wild. David Campbell’s “Pretty Brown” from 1977 represents a brief but significant moment in the Maritime folk revival, pressed by the small Noona Music label out of Nova Scotia. Campbell was part of that wave of Maritime songwriters who bridged traditional Celtic influences with contemporary folk sensibilities, though he never achieved the wider recognition of peers like Stan Rogers or The Irish Rovers. This album captures him at his creative peak, blending storytelling rooted in East Coast fishing communities with surprisingly sophisticated guitar work that hints at his classical training.
