Here’s a delightful slice of James Last’s orchestral mastery from his prolific 1983 catalog. “My Favourite Love Songs” represents Last at the height of his commercial appeal, showcasing the German bandleader’s signature “happy sound” arrangements that made him one of Europe’s best-selling instrumental artists. This Canadian Polydor pressing captures Last’s sophisticated approach to romantic standards, where his expansive orchestra transforms familiar melodies into lush, danceable interpretations that somehow never feel overly saccharine. The album features his trademark blend of strings, brass, and rhythm section that defined the easy listening genre’s evolution in the early 80s.
