Released in 1985 and produced by Elvis Costello, Rum Sodomy & The Lash is widely regarded as The Pogues’ masterpiece – a raw, passionate, and brilliantly chaotic fusion of Irish folk tradition and punk energy. From the heartbreaking “A Pair of Brown Eyes” to the rousing “Sally MacLennane” and the devastating “The Old Main Drag”, the album captures Shane MacGowan’s songwriting at its most vivid and uncompromising. An essential record of the 1980s alternative scene.
